The ACLS Provider course, held over two days, is intended for dentists who do oral/IV sedation or general anaesthesia as part of their dental practice and have not previously taken ACLS or feel they could benefit from a two day course instead of the one day refresher. Focus is placed on early recognition and effective response to serious cardiovascular events. The ACLS course utilizes case-based sessions, simulations, video presentations, didactic discussions and hands on practice to help each student achieve success in the course and in practice. Learn ACLS with other dentists in a program customized for your work environment. This course is approved by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the American Heart Association.
A core skill of any ACLS course is the management of cardiopulmonary arrests, including: identifying conditions putting the patient at risk, basic and advanced life support and effective resuscitation team dynamics. It is recommended that learners begin reviewing the course materials two to four weeks prior to the course start date.
The course is open to dentists, CDAs, RDAs and hygienists. If the student is unsuccessful on the written exam or chooses not to write the exam they will receive a certificate of attendance and be eligible for 16 educational hours
